Who is Jack Norris?

Posted by DELISLE MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION on Mar 10 2018 at 12:49PM PST in 2017-2018

Jack Norris played pro hockey from 1963-76. He started his career with the Boston Bruins in 1963 when the NHL only had 6 teams and there was only 1 goalie per team and when goaltenders did NOT wear masks. The next year he was at the time part of the biggest trade in NHL history. A trade so big it is still called “The TRADE”. Phil Esposite, Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield to Boston for Pit Martin, Gilles Marotte and Jack Norris. The reason this trade is so famous is the Boston Bruins became a force after the trade and went on to win a few cups and become a powerhouse in the NHL.

He won the calder cup (AHL championship) with the Dallas Blackhawks – Chicago’s AHL team.

He was the first goaltender for the Edmonton Oilers as the entered there first year in the WHA.

He is infamously known for taking a slapshot from Bobby Hull right in the head, with no mask, and live to tell it. This is one of the main reason’s why he and Bobby are still friends today.

He played in the NHL for Boston, Montreal, Chicago, L.A. Kings and in the WHA for the Edmonton Oilers and Phoenix Roadrunners.
